As you may know if you've read my profile, I'm smack bang in the middle of an accountancy degree at the moment. I'm pretty sure I want to be an accountant when I graduate, but I don't know anyone who has a visual impairment and has gone into finance or accountancy. If anyone has, or knows someone who has, gone into accounting or finance related careers, I would be very interested to network and find out how they've got on with it etc.
I look forward to having the opportunity to do some networking at last!
I would think that would be a hard field for VI people as even people with good vision talk about how looking at numbers all day cause eye fatigue.
I know that American Council for the Blind and I think National Federation of the Blind also has smaller groups for specific jobs - i.e. blind teachers, blind lawyers, etc. You should check out those organizations to see if they have a group for blind accountants.
Hi,
Well I got my accounting degree a few months before losing my sight. I have found it kind of hard to find a job doing anything with accounting, the closest thing I tried was collections. A fun job if you don't mind getting yelled at or cursed at.
I have actually started to go back to college to start another degree in technology management.
But good luck with things.
